Tata Nexon Facelift: Elevating the Bestseller

Tata Nexon Facelift: Elevating the Bestseller

Tata's Nexon, a consistent bestseller in India, has undergone its second major facelift, transforming it into what feels like an entirely new SUV. Since its launch in 2017, the Nexon has garnered acclaim for its 5-star safety rating, achieved in 2018 from Global NCAP. The 2023 model aims to uphold Tata's leading position in its class.

Exterior Revamp: The 2023 Nexon features a thoroughly updated exterior. The front end showcases a new bonnet and fenders, with the bonnet sitting higher and displaying striking Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs). A faux grille connects the DRLs, and the lower section houses the main projector headlamp and fog lights. Notably, the angular bumper directs airflow around the wheels, enhancing aerodynamics. On the sides, it retains its distinctive coupe roofline and newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels. At the rear, a larger spoiler conceals the rear wiper, while the signature 'V-shaped lights have evolved, incorporating a sweeping motion during locking and unlocking.

Interior Redesign and Features: The cabin of the 2023 Nexon is a refreshing departure, characterized by an appealing design, comprehensive features, and a pleasing ambiance. The dashboard exudes sophistication with layered elements and clean lines. A 'metal' finish ledge is complemented by a 'soft' section below the vents, adding to the visual appeal. The new steering wheel design, featuring straight lines and piano black surfaces, adds a modern touch. Noteworthy are the twin 10.25-inch high-resolution screens, with the central screen particularly impressive, boasting wireless Apple CarPlay, a sharp 360-degree camera, and slick 3D graphics. The instrument panel is fully digital, offering a customizable display.

Performance Insights: The petrol variant, equipped with a three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, delivers 120hp and comes with a new twin-clutch automatic transmission. The engine provides adequate power, with smoother operation once past 1,800rpm. However, it's not a high-revving engine, with optimal performance around 5,500rpm. The diesel version, carrying a four-cylinder 1.5-liter engine, offers 115hp and robust torque. It excels in the mid-range, providing ample pulling power between 2,000-4,000rpm.

Ride and Handling: Tata has maintained the Nexon's impressive suspension setup. While there's a slight stiffness at low speeds, it smoothens out at higher speeds. The SUV handles bumps with composure, offering flat and controlled ride quality. The steering is light at low speeds and gains precision with increased velocity, making it suitable for extended highway drives.

Verdict: With an estimated price range of Rs 8 lakh to 14 lakh, the new Nexon combines refreshed aesthetics, an upscale cabin, and enhanced driving dynamics. It boasts an array of features, including a smooth twin-clutch automatic and updated diesel engine. While some areas like fit and finish could be refined, the Nexon facelift remains an excellent value proposition, aligning with the preferences of Indian car buyers. If you admired the Nexon before, the 2023 model is likely to win you over completely.
